Signing Habits

Tim is a tough autograph. In San Antonio, the only time he really signs is at the Spurs games, and even then he doesn't sign every game. Not sure how he is on the road.

Biography

Although he didn't play organized basketball until ninth grade, Tim Duncan is one of the world's premiere basketball stars and is just the second player in NBA history to be named to both an All-NBA Team and an All-Defensive Team in each of his first four seasons. He was selected with the first pick of the 1997 draft and was named NBA Rookie of the Year and 1999 NBA Finals MVP after winning his first NBA Championship with the San Antonio Spurs. Tim won back-to-back NBA MVP awards in 2002 and 2003 and was named NBA Finals MVP in 2003 and 2005.

He and his wife Amy were married in the summer of 2001 and, together, they run the Tim Duncan Foundation- which will fund nonprofit organizations in the areas of education, health awareness and research, and youth sports and recreation. Foundation funds will be raised through special events and fundraisers. Over the last five years – through the Tim Duncan Bowling for Dollar$ Charity Bowl-A-Thon – Duncan has raised and donated more than $550,000 for breast and prostate cancer detection, prevention, and treatment. In addition he hosts an annual charity golf tournament in San Antonio.

The Foundation has also donated $25,000 to purchase and install the first wooden basketball court on the island of St. Croix, Tim’s homeland in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In San Antonio, the Foundation recently purchased a multi-purpose vehicle from Gunn Automotive for Roy Maas' Youth Alternatives (RMYA). The vehicle replaced the center’s existing van with a newer, safer means of transportation for the nearly 700 children per year that they serve.
